About Your Experience
Restorative Contact is a mindfulness and empathy practice that helps us be present in the moment, in our bodies, and with the important people in our lives, including ourselves. What sets Restorative Contact apart from other forms of mindfulness is that
it’s the only form that uses touch as an anchor.
Touch is a powerful force for calming the nervous system. It boosts dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin, the hormones associated with making people feel good, plus it lowers cortisol levels, which are associated with stress. Studies indicate that touch is highly correlated with overall relationship and partner satisfaction, and it supports conflict resolution.
The session begins with a short and playful partner warm-up to get us thinking about (and physicalizing!) collaboration. From there, we go into the primary sequence, a floor-based progression of touch and weight-sharing where we slow down, invite stillness, and allow the body to rest. While body-based, Restorative Contact also includes moments of speaking and listening, valuable opportunities to express observations, gratitudes, and reflections.
